1883年3月14日马克思谢世，但他所创立的马克思主义政治哲学并没有就此停止发展的步伐。马克思之后，马克思政治哲学思想得到了连续不断的推进与发展，这是对马克思政治哲学思想加以续写的过程，也是马克思政治哲学思想能够不断与时俱进的重要反映。马克思政治哲学思想自19世纪中叶诞生至今，毫无间断地得到了长达一个半多世纪的发展，这是人类政治哲学思想史上伟大的发展奇迹。本书力求通过史论结合和尊重文本的方式，对马克思之后的马克思政治哲学思想的变化与发展展开深入的剖析，从而使人们更加清晰地理解马克思政治哲学思想在马克思之后真实的历史发展轨迹，以及思想内容的变化。本书认为，从宏观上看，马克思之后的政治哲学思想有两条大的发展主线：一条发展主线是由恩格斯所开启，以实践为导向的思想发展之路；另一条发展主线是由卢卡奇、柯尔施和葛兰西所开启，以思辨为导向的理论发展之路。本书分为上、下两篇，对上述两条发展线索，着力加以了系统的分析与探究。
