本书在比较的视域下分析了欧美STS起源、研究范式及哲学基础的不同，阐述了欧美STS两种传统的未来走向以及在争取两种传统走向和解道路上的尝试和努力，试图构建STS发展的理论图景。对于中国本土的STS研究，作者认为目前我国STS研究中的论争，也是欧美两种传统的分立在中国的折射造成的。在回顾中国STS的发展历程之后，作者指出了我国STS研究中存在的问题，并结合中国的实践情境尝试提出中国STS研究的一种走向。
This book analyzes the origin, research paradigm and philosophical basis of STS in Europe and the United States from a comparative perspective, and expounds the future direction of the two traditions of STS in Europe and the United States, as well as the attempts and efforts on the road of reconciliation between the two traditions, and attempts to construct a theoretical picture of the development of STS. For STS research in China, the author believes that the current controversy in STS research in China is also caused by the refraction of the separation of two traditions in Europe and the United States in China. After reviewing the development process of STS in China, the author points out the problems in STS research in China, and attempts to propose a trend of STS research in China based on China's practical situation.（AI翻译）
