“历代燕赵词”辑录上起隋唐、下迄近现代之燕赵籍词人创作之词。编次以时代为序，分为唐五代宋、金元、明代、清代至现代四部分。以作者为经，词人姓氏下附小传，简要介绍词人生平仕履，并依据前人论述对词人作品略加评述，以见其词风源流、特征及对词坛的影响；有词学论著者，概括其精粹，以明其词学主张与渊源。无资料可参者，则以己意分析。此编旨在汇辑历代燕赵词作，供研究者参考之用，网罗散失，虽断句零章，亦加摭拾，以见作为中国词学重要组成部分的燕赵词之创作实绩和发展历程。
