本书原名《塔吉克民族简史》。最初以塔吉克语发表于1947年。后来又三次增订，并改用俄文印行。最后一版刊印于1955年。前后经过八年时间，三次修改补充，所以1955年版的内容比较充实，叙述也较精炼。《塔吉克民族简史》出版后，被认为是中亚名著，作者也因此书而享盛誉。
