本书是汉语方言持续体标记的比较研究。基于整体汉语的角度，穷尽性地收集现代汉语方言中持续体标记的各种语音形式，从共时、历时两个方面分析“着”“之/子/仔”“倒/到”“哒”“得”“的”“紧/等/稳/餐/恁”“起”“住/居”等几类持续体标记的特点，通过它们之间的对应关系，探求它们和中古“著”的同源关系及“著”类持续标记的演变轨迹。
