本书是教育部人文社会科学重点研究基地重大攻关项目《阳明心学的历史渊源及其近代转型研究》（项目编号：16JJD720014）的一部分。在儒、墨、道、法的彼此穿插比较、摩荡之中，该书论证了先秦儒家政治哲学的基本特征。书中还从心性学与政治哲学的关系视域出发，讨论了陆九渊、王阳明对先秦原始儒家精神的继承与创造性发展。从孔、曾、思、孟的思想灵魂之中去寻找陆王心学的原始动力，是该书的最大亮点。
