《中国现代儿童文学史论》基于中国儿童文学史写作现状的考察与反思，从文化研究及建构的角度，以“历史标准”与“美学标准”的有机统一为价值尺度，对晚清民处至20世纪40年代末的中国儿童文学史进行了现代性反思，尝试勾勒中国儿童文学史的另一种轮廓与影像。与成人文学或一般文学相比，新时期以来的儿童文学研究是远远落后的；而相对于儿童文学基本理论、儿童文学批评而言，儿童文学史的研究则是薄弱的。
