在一个多世纪的美国电影史上，中国题材电影是好莱坞电影工业的一个组成部分，不仅数量可观，而且体裁多样，作为他者的中国形象已然构成了好莱坞电影形象的一个十分突出现象。表面看来，好莱坞的中国形象似乎总是在肯定和否定两极之间跳荡摇摆，生产与传播史上显现出了混乱的形象谱系。而深层次审视，好莱坞在集体意识与无意识之间，对中国形象表现上却更多呈现出了漫画化、妖魔化和丑化等负面倾向，在忽明忽暗的镜像所展示的种族、性别与政治等的交错层面间充满着傲慢与偏见。好莱坞电影与美国现实政治常常是一种互文关系，有着鲜明的意识形态特征。本书试图对好莱坞电影的中国形象问题的历史与现状进行一次描述和阐释，以进一步厘清电影中的中国形象的内涵与实质所在。

In the history of American cinema for more than a century, Chinese-themed films are an integral part of the Hollywood film industry, not only in considerable number, but also in diverse genres, and the image of China as the other has constituted a very prominent phenomenon of Hollywood film image. On the surface, Hollywood's image of China always seems to oscillate between the poles of affirmation and denial, and a chaotic image genealogy appears in the history of production and communication. On a deeper examination, Hollywood shows more negative tendencies such as caricature, demonization and ugliness in the expression of Chinese images between collective consciousness and unconscious, and is full of pride and prejudice between the intersecting levels of race, gender and politics shown by flickering mirror images. Hollywood films and American realpolitik are often intertextual and have distinct ideological characteristics. This book attempts to describe and explain the history and current situation of the Chinese image problem in Hollywood films, so as to further clarify the connotation and essence of the Chinese image in films.（AI翻译）
