本书用比较、变换的方法提出一个新的语法系统。全书依据同义的标准把句子分为五大类：介词格类，受事格类，非控格类，状态存在句类，异形句类。对每一大类先分别进行比较，着重找出同义句或同义成分的形式特征及差异，然后用变换公式作形式化的描写。变换部分主要描写两种变换：1.推导变换。描写从抽象模式到使用模式之间的变换。2.移位变换。描写使用模式之间的变换。
