本书包括先秦生命哲学与中国艺术生命论两大部分，二者紧密联系，而联系的钮结则是“先王乐教”与周公的礼乐教化。“乐”作为古代综合体艺术，是生命哲学论述的主要对象，这说明艺术是有生命的，艺术活动是人的生命活动的精神表现。全书共七章：第一章是春秋生命哲学原创论，产生于西周末年，形成于春秋时期。第二章论述战国时期原创论分流、衍变而被战国主要学派批判地继承、吸收和发展，成为儒、道、墨、杂等学派思想的重要组成部分。第三章论述中国艺术生命论产生的历史源流及艺术生命的本质表现。第四、五、六、七诸章以艺术生命为主导线索，从艺术的历史传统、创作、批评、教育等四个方面，论述中国艺术的民族风格及其特点，并指出了这些特点的价值及缺失之所在。

This book includes two major parts, the pre-Qin philosophy of life and the Chinese art theory of life, which are closely related, and the link between them is the "Xianwang Lejiao" and the ritual music education of the Duke of Zhou. As an ancient synthetic art, "music" is the main object of the philosophy of life, which shows that art is alive, and artistic activities are the spiritual expression of human life activities. The book has seven chapters: the first chapter is the original theory of the Spring and Autumn philosophy of life, which was born in the Western Dynasty and formed in the Spring and Autumn period. The second chapter discusses the divergence and evolution of original theories in the Warring States period, which were critically inherited, absorbed and developed by the main schools of the Warring States period, and became an important part of the ideas of Confucianism, Taoism, Mo, and miscellaneous schools. Chapter 3 discusses the historical origin of the Chinese art life theory and the essential expression of artistic life.
