感性批评，是作者从事中国现当代小说研究一以贯之的基本思路和方法。作者认为，在西方近现代、当代各种文学理论和思潮都被介绍到国内的背景下，小说的阅读、研究不再以任何一种单一的理论、方法为指导，而是要毫无理论前见地、充分感性地进入小说文本的阅读和思考之中，进行充分的文本细读，依据小说文本的不同面貌和一些文本的细节，随机选用不同的文学批评、研究的理论和方法。
