本书从中国现代国家建构视角，从历史、结构、功能、过程和改革五个方面，系统研究了城市街道办事处的历史、现实与未来，梳理了街道办事处的历史起源与形态流变、制度属性与权力、制度机理与政治功能及其实际运作，指出了街道办事处本质上是中国现代国家构建中国家权力对城市基层社会的政治嵌入机制，它的演变与中国现代国家建构的战略变动关系紧密。简要探讨了街道办事处的未来改革问题，指出其未来走向主要取决于其能否通过改造，符合中国现代国家建构的要求。

From the perspective of modern Chinese state construction, this book systematically studies the history, reality and future of urban street offices from five aspects: history, structure, function, process and reform, sorts out the historical origin and morphological flux, institutional attributes and powers, institutional mechanisms and political functions of street offices and their actual operation, and points out that street offices are essentially the political embedding mechanism of state power to urban grassroots society in the construction of modern Chinese state, and its evolution is closely related to the strategic changes of modern state construction in China. The future reform of the sub-district office is briefly discussed, and it is pointed out that its future direction mainly depends on whether it can be transformed to meet the requirements of China's modern state construction.（AI翻译）
