“花儿”是西北地区藏族、裕固族、东乡族、保安族、土族、撒拉族、回族、汉族、蒙古族等九个民族用汉语演唱的民歌，是丝绸之路上古老的口传民歌，被誉为“大西北之魂”。该书在《西北花儿精选》《六盘山花儿两千首》等四十余部“花儿”歌词集的基础上，精选“花儿”歌词，并对其注释，考释“花儿”本字，对方言词加注国际音标注音。同时，对精选的“花儿”作简要评析，旨在让读者体会“花儿”的魅力，扩大“花儿”的影响力，促进“花儿”的传播，助力“花儿”走出西北，走向世界。
