本书是“董学与儒学辨正系列”的第三部，沿用了唯实主义的原则和在唯实主义基础上所建立的在哲学体系和思想之间进行系统比较的理论框架和方法，对董学与曾子儒学、子思儒学、孟子儒学和荀子哲学进行了系统的唯实比较，在揭示董学与它们的关系的同时，也深入挖掘了各种思想的本质。本书认为，孟子儒学在理念和价值观方面继承了孔学，荀子哲学在诸多关键方面与孔学完全不同，而与董学具有内在的理念和价值上的渊源。
