方法掌握着研究的命运。与近代以来哲学具有浓厚的科学主义传统相联系，一般价值论中占主导地位的是“拟科学”的认知论研究方法。由于人学价值论与科学认知论之间存在实质性的学术差异，这导致了许多理论和实践问题。对价值论研究方法进行系统反思，自觉建构适应价值论性质和特点的方法，是价值论研究取得突破的关键。只有从实际活动着的人出发，立足主体尺度和主体际关系，坚持价值的实践品格和历史维度，才能把握价值的真谛和价值活动的规律，建构价值思维方式和价值逻辑。
