本书运用历史语境主义的方法，研究《商君书》的国家建设思想，不仅分析战国中晚期的政治社会语境和思想文化语境，更根据当时的语境来合理地理解国家建设在当时的意义及其对后世的影响，并探讨作为主要政治行动者的“商鞅学派”这些法家是如何“以言行事”的，以期为中国特色社会主义国家建设提供经验借鉴与政治智慧。
