本书立足于陀思妥耶夫斯基所置身的俄罗斯文化及其与西欧文化关系的宏观语境，从时间处理和空间设置的角度勾画出《卡拉马佐夫兄弟》这部长篇小说的时空形式特征——多重时间系统和聚合性精神空间，以及作家所采用的多镜聚焦、三重透视、梦境与幻觉描写等艺术手段，探讨了这部总结之作如何表达出陀思妥耶夫斯基的生命体验与宗教情怀，揭示出了陀思妥耶夫斯基身处历史转折期的文化焦虑、回归民族文化根基的意愿以及“美拯救世界”的理想。
