本书从空间的角度，运用地理语言学研究方法对湖南新化县地名修辞、禁忌语委婉语、俗语修辞、山歌篇章修辞进行了全面系统研究，总结出了其修辞在语词、语句、语篇各层面的特点及地域成因，从而以新化方言为例论证出了修辞的地域性。
