广府人是广东三大民系中的第一大民系，以粤语（又称广东话）为母语，以珠江三角洲为中心分布于广东、香港、澳门等地区，广州是广府文化中心。本书以口述史研究法为主，结合文献法等研究方法，以广州、香港两地的代表性琴人为研究对象，通过访谈和收集有关资料，探讨广府琴人古琴传承活动与城市文化之间的互文关系，分析岭南古琴文化、琴学思想、音乐风格的形成缘由，聚焦于地域文化视角的广府琴人口述史，不但关注代表性传人，也注重普通琴人的习琴历程，从而获得对广府琴人古琴传承历史与现状的整体认识。
