本书立足时代精神观念内在博弈的角度，讨论中国社会晚近变革的内在逻辑脉络。对20世纪末期以来、乃至近代以来的文学和文化思潮演变，作者以典型个案列举的方式，观照其总体性的哲学一社会学蕴含。作者认为，时代的精神变革和思潮演变，是现实实践和个体当代经验推动的结果，也是深层文化观念连续和延伸的结果。现实实践、个体经验、历史观念及其相互作用方式的无限丰富性，决定了精神演化轨迹的曲折性对于当代经验的描述，作者注重透视其当代性背后的历史承袭；而对于传统性思想文化观念的阐释，作者则着重其和当代经验建立相互质证和相互支持关系的可能性。以个体心理感受和时代精神趋向的相互联结为中介，展开有关当代经验和历史观念的描述和反思，这样的理解中国的视角，是贯穿本书不同篇章的基本线索。
Based on the perspective of the internal game of the spirit of the times, this book discusses the internal logical context of the recent changes in Chinese society. For the evolution of literary and cultural thought since the late 20th century and even since modern times, the author examines its overall philosophical-sociological implications by listing typical cases. The author believes that the spiritual change and ideological evolution of the times are the result of the promotion of actual practice and individual contemporary experience, and also the result of the continuity and extension of deep cultural concepts. The infinite richness of actual practice, individual experience, historical concepts and their interaction methods determines the tortuous nature of the spiritual evolution trajectory and the description of contemporary experience, and the author pays attention to the historical inheritance behind its contemporaneity. As for the interpretation of traditional ideas and cultural concepts, the author focuses on the possibility of establishing a mutual cross-examination and mutual support relationship with contemporary experience.
