本书在全面梳理《史记》文学资料和研究历史的基础上，以《史记》为什么能“越界”成为文学经典为问题，系统勾勒《史记》文学经典化历程，展现从汉代至当代不同时期、不同读者对《史记》文学的阐释和接受情况，并且探讨经典化背后的政治、文化等原因。通过对两千多年来中外《史记》文学阐释史、审美效果史、经典影响史的综合研究，进一步认识了《史记》的文学特征以及在中国文化史上的不朽地位，深化了《史记》及汉代文学研究；揭示了《史记》文学经典形成的内在和外在因素，深究了文学与史学的内在联系；通过对《史记》文学传播以及读者接受的探讨，挖掘了我们民族的审美心理、审美观念；通过对《史记》文学经典化过程和途径的探讨，为今天的文学创作和史书编纂提供借鉴，进而启发当代作家创作出被读者接受的具有生命力的传记作品，因而具有重要的理论意义和现实意义。
Based on a comprehensive review of the literary sources and research history of The Records of the Grand Historian, and trying to find out why The Records of the Grand Historian could "cross the border" and become a literary classic, this book systematically outlines the history of the literary classicizing of The Records of the Grand Historian, showing the interpretation and acceptance of The Records of the Grand Historian by different readers in different periods from the Han Dynasty to contemporary times, and exploring the political and cultural reasons behind the classicizing. Through the exploration of the literary dissemination of The Records of the Grand Historian and its acceptance by readers, the aesthetic psychology and aesthetic concepts of our nation are unearthed; through the exploration of the process and ways of the literary classicizing of The Records of the Grand Historian, lessons are provided for today's literary creation and compilation of historical books, which in turn inspire contemporary writers to create biographical works with vitality that are accepted by readers, and thus are of great theoretical and practical significance.
