本书的“水”泛指一切水域或汁液（包括其物理变化形态）。本书系统归纳和整理汉语“水”语义场中的词语，采用“语义场-次语义场-词”三级比较的研究思路和比较词义的研究方法对于核心词“水”进行研究。
第二章到第七章对“水”的语义场展开研究。采取“语义场-次语义场-词”的研究思路对其进行了系统的整理和归纳，探讨其中词语的组合和聚合问题。同时比较汉藏语系和其他语系语言，探讨其中共同的语义演变规律。第八章和第九章系统运用“比较词义”方法，把汉语“水”的语义演变放入世界诸语言的背景下，从类型学的角度探讨其共同的语义演变规律。
The term "water" in this book refers to all waters or juices (including their physical forms). This book systematically summarizes and organizes the words in the Chinese "water" semantic field, and adopts the research idea of "semantic field-subsemantic field-word" three-level comparison and the research method of comparing word meanings to study the core word "water". Chapters 2 to 7 examine the semantic field of "water".
