在全面依法治国以及国家治理体系和治理能力现代化的过程中，建构科学合理、权责明确、协调有序的权力结构是现代大学治理体系的题中之义，让大学各种权力合法运行是大学治理现代化的基础。大学行政权力随着大学发展和演变由学者权力让渡而来，从大学自身发展需要和政府授权中获得了合法存在，在公共责任、科层制、政治合法和资源依赖方面建立了合法性基础。本书在厘清大学行政权力的本质、特点、合法性基础、运行规则等问题的基础上，探究大学行政权力的合法行使，进一步丰富和深化了大学行政权力的研究，初步构建了中国大学行政权力研究的话语体系。
