紧凑城市是西欧国家针对城市无序蔓延发展而提出的可持续发展理念，研究其在我国城镇化发展过程中应如何加以合理的运用是一项重要课题。本书将理论研究、方法分析与实证研究相结合，致力于探寻紧凑城市相关理论和模式应用于解决我国城市和区域发展的“现实问题”的路径与范式。本书通过全面系统地梳理紧凑城市及其相关理论，导出紧凑式城市规划要素并进行重要度评价，归纳总结紧凑城市空间结构要素的测度方法，以此为基础定量分析相应要素对经济绩效、环境保护及社会发展等城市和区域可持续发展的影响，进一步明确其在我国不同区域环境和发展水平下的作用与影响，并指出我国城市和区域未来空间发展应继续坚持以紧凑城市为重要的战略方向，构建更加科学、合理、髙效的紧凑式城市空间发展新格局。在此过程中应进一步强化基础设施对紧凑式空间的引导和支撑作用，完善城市规划体系和提高城市治理能力。
Compact city is a sustainable development concept proposed by Western European countries for the disorderly development of cities, and it is an important topic to study how it should be reasonably applied in the process of urbanization development in China. This book combines theoretical research, methodological analysis and empirical research, and is committed to exploring the path and paradigm of applying compact city-related theories and models to solve the "practical problems" of urban and regional development in China. By comprehensively and systematically combing compact cities and their related theories, this book derives compact urban planning elements and evaluates their importance, summarizes the measurement methods of compact urban spatial structure elements, and quantitatively analyzes the impact of corresponding factors on sustainable urban and regional sustainable development such as economic performance, environmental protection and social development, and further clarifies its role and impact under different regional environment and development levels in China. It is also pointed out that the future spatial development of China's cities and regions should continue to adhere to the important strategic direction of compact cities, and build a new pattern of more scientific, reasonable and efficient compact urban spatial development. In this process, the guiding and supporting role of infrastructure in compact space should be further strengthened, and the urban planning system and urban governance capacity should be improved.（AI翻译）
