In recent years, academic circles at home and abroad have attracted increasing attention to the social and cultural effects of the Cold War, especially the interaction between "politics and knowledge" (official intelligence) under the influence of the Cold War. The Sino-US relationship was the most important bilateral relationship during the Cold War. In the early years of the Cold War, the two sides were in a state of sharp confrontation, and the United States once regarded China as an enemy "more threatening than the Soviet Union", and this exaggerated image of the "China threat" in turn reinforced the US policy of hostility and containment towards China. In the historical context of Sino-US confrontation, Chinese Studies has rapidly prospered and developed in response to the "needs of the Cold War" and intervened in all aspects of the formulation and implementation of US China policy in a special way. The development of Chinese studies in the United States during the Cold War clearly reveals the irreplaceable role of academic research as a "seniority", the counterforce of political funds and political operations on academia, and the tension generated by the continuous interaction between politics and academia. In addition, the political tendencies, academic thoughts, value scales and even destinies of Chinese experts under the pressure of the "Cold War Consensus" are also the topics of this book. This book attempts to think about and answer the following questions: first, the interaction between "Cold War needs" and American China studies; Second, Chinese studies in the United States, broadly speaking, what is the power source and driving force of American area studies?
