歌谣是行走于民众口中的诗，新诗是汉语现代转型过程中打开新世界、化合新经验催生的文体，由于特殊的历史机缘，20世纪中国新诗进行了多次以歌谣为资源的努力求索。本书对20世纪新诗化合歌谣的多次实践进行历史追踪，并重点聚焦于1940年代“新诗歌谣化”在国统区、解放区两种不同文学制度下的丰富实践，通过细读何其芳、艾青、袁水拍、李季、阮章竞等人的代表诗作，展示了新诗与歌谣不同的文体边界以及耿谣进入新诗的复杂历史进境。
