清末民初时期是建水紫陶由粗陶发展演变至无釉细陶的转型阶段，同时也是建水紫陶独具特色的无釉磨光工艺和彩泥刻填工艺形成和发展的一个极为重要的历史时期。本书以建水紫陶在该时期生产的代表产品“陶斗”作为主要研究对象，通过对这一历史产品的形成背景、工艺特点、美术装饰、文化内涵等方面进行系统的探索和研究，揭示建水紫陶这一古老的边疆传统民间陶艺独特的艺术魅力和文化特征。
