本著着力探讨鲁迅小说中多种类型的结构，如“铁屋子结构”、“序文结构”、“封套结构”、“反比例结构”、“空间结构”、“否定之否定结构”等等，其中重点提出并探讨“智情双结构”。每类结构不仅分别从鲁迅的启蒙理想、言说困境、读者意识等多维角度分析阐释，并且结合《狂人日记》、《阿Q正传》、《伤逝》、《示众》、《端午节》、《铸剑》等经典文本阐述论证。
