本书是作者“金三角纪实”系列之一，作者以他闯荡金三角八年的亲眼见证及获得的大量第一手资料，描述了自1949年12月卢汉起义之后，国民党残军逃往国外进入缅甸境内金三角地区，在境外从事反共及经营鸦片等活动，直至发展成号称“三万雄师”的鸦片军阀队伍，最后又被泰国政府军围剿，被迫缴械投降的全过程。其中涉及大量不为外人所知的史实和国民党残军将领李弥、段希文、等人的传奇经历。这部写真纪实可视作国民党残军在金三角的历史记录。
