本书首次论证了世界文学与中国现代文学的双向关系：世界文学影响了中国现代文学经典的形成，而中国现代文学的海外传播又丰富了世界文学宝库。本书认为，世界文学不是一个固定概念，而是一个旅行的概念；世界文学不是各国/民族文学的总汇，而是指那种具有世界性意义的文学；世界文学经典的评价应当依循某种普遍的标准；在世界文学史的编写过程中应突破西方中心主义的藩篱；应通过不断在世界上发声向世界推广中国文学；在确定世界文学经典时，应同时考虑其经典性和可读性。

This book argues for the first time the two-way relationship between world literature and modern Chinese literature: world literature has influenced the formation of the Chinese modern literary canon, while the overseas dissemination of modern Chinese literature has enriched the treasury of world literature. The book argues that world literature is not a fixed concept, but a traveling concept. World literature is not the summation of national literature, but a kind of literature with global significance; the evaluation of the classics of world literature should follow some universal standards; the fence of Western centrism should be broken in the process of writing the history of world literature; Chinese literature should be promoted to the world by constantly speaking out in the world; when determining the classics of world literature, both its classicism and readability should be considered.
