在文化整体观的视角下，一部严格意义上的建筑史，应该由建筑的技术史、艺术史和民俗史构成。这三个分支可分别由建筑工程学、艺术学以及民俗学来加以研究。中国工匠建房民俗的研究，在学界已经有较好的开端，但还缺乏全面、系统的专著。《中国工匠建房民俗考论》填补了中国工匠建房民俗研究之空白。作者注重中国工匠建房民俗与其文化系统的关系，认真爬梳文献，对建房民俗中的种种文化符号和仪式传统进行了考据，理清了它们在中华文化传统中的来龙去脉，其中不少古籍文献的考据可谓竭泽而渔、煞费苦心；同时，作者运用文化人类学与民俗学的田野调查方法，对现存的工匠建房民俗活动进行个案式的田野调査，做到历史考据与田野调查相结合。作者不但进行考据式的研究，而且对宗教信仰的民俗化、巫术与宗教的界限、口传文学与仪式的关系等重大理论问题提出独到见解。该书对于中国建筑史的研究以及宗教学、文化人类学、民俗学相关理论问题的研究，颇具启示意义。

From the perspective of cultural holism, an architectural history in the strict sense should be composed of the technical history of architecture, art history and folk history. These three branches can be studied by architectural engineering, art and folklore. The study of Chinese craftsmen building houses and folklore has made a good start in the academic circles, but there is still a lack of comprehensive and systematic monographs. "An Examination of Chinese Craftsmen's House Building Folklore" fills the gap in the study of Chinese craftsmen's house building folklore. The author pays attention to the relationship between Chinese craftsmen's house-building folklore and its cultural system, carefully combs through the literature, examines various cultural symbols and ritual traditions in house-building folklore, and sorts out their ins and outs in the Chinese cultural tradition. At the same time, the author uses the fieldwork methods of cultural anthropology and folklore to conduct case-by-case field investigation of the existing folk activities of craftsmen building houses, so as to combine historical research and fieldwork. The author not only conducts evidence-based research, but also puts forward unique insights on major theoretical issues such as the folklore of religious belief, the boundary between witchcraft and religion, and the relationship between oral literature and ritual. The book is of great enlightenment to the study of Chinese architectural history and the study of theoretical issues related to religious studies, cultural anthropology, and folklore.（AI翻译）
